Could dentures be considered a cosmetic enhancement?

Dentures can most certainly be a cosmetic enhancement and that is why flat pink

plastic looking dentures are history. The modern day kind of dentures are hand

constructed and are so realistically looking that it is hard to tell to even the

most discerning eye that they are not natural gums and teeth.

Types of Cosmetic Dentures

The two main types of cosmetic dentures are Acrylic dentures that are a plastic

kind of gum colored dentures and Cobalt Chromium dentures with a metal base with

gum colored plastic.

Acrylic cosmetic dentures are suitable when all the teeth are lost. It is also a

lighter form of dentures. Cobalt Chromium dentures are suitable when there are a

number of teeth stil in tact. It is a stronger and more stable form of dentures and

do not cover as much gum area as Acrylic dentures. It is important however to

follow the advice of your cosmetic dentist on what type of cosmetic dentures will

be the most suitable for your particular needs.

It usually requires four visits to your cosmetic dentist to complete cosmetic

dentures. You will have to undertake two visits to create the impressions and

confirm a bite registration. Thereafter you will have to follow it up with a trial

fitting visit and a final fit visit.
